The Plan

October 30th, 2024 at 04:35 pm

Most of my planning has gone simply into surviving the next fourteen monthes while I'm in grad school.  I'm working two part time jobs which add up to one full time job.  My program is online, so its convenient.  My income is enough to cover my priorities which are 1) bare bones living (less face it, I don't have a lot of time for anything other than work and school) 2) my tuition and 3) health insurance premium.  (I am still currently insured but did some shopping around and have funds set aside to cover this expense when it occupies a line-item on my budget).  I am looking forward to January of 2026 when I will have completed my program, be employed and have insurance.  I had to realize that things like retirement and travel and going to have to wait for the timebeing.  That's the short-term plan.

It sounds like your short term plan will then feed into your long term plans for retirement and travel. Hope your degree will afford you a steady income that will allow this.

Good for you for having a plan and an early start!

Is your grad program a masters or a doctorate? What do employment prospects look like for graduates in your field?
